Planning your wedding and wondering if you really need a photographer for the entire day? You’re not alone.
According to Lisa Carpenter Photography and many of her fellow photographer friends, more and more couples are choosing short coverage wedding photography; a flexible, budget-friendly option that focuses on capturing the most meaningful parts of your celebration.
Curious about short coverage? We asked Lisa Carpenter Photography to spill the details.
Short coverage typically means hiring a photographer for 2 to 5 hours, rather than the full-day packages that span 8 to 12 hours. It’s ideal for couples who want beautiful, professional photos of the key moments, without the extra cost or commitment.
If you’re having a smaller, more intimate celebration, or just fancy a couple of hours of photography before hitting the dancefloor, you still deserve, beautiful, story telling photography and the right photographer can deliver these key moments while sticking to the timeline that YOU choose!
Why Couples Love It:
Here’s why short coverage might be the perfect fit for your wedding:
- 💸 Saves Money: You get high-quality images without paying for hours you don’t need.
- 💑 Focus on What Matters: Your photographer captures the most emotional and important parts of your day.
- 🕊️ Less Stress: A shorter session means less coordination and more time to enjoy your celebration.
What Can Be Captured in Just a Few Hours?
Even with limited time, the right photographer can tell a beautiful story. Here’s what’s typically included:
- Getting Ready Moments: Final touches, dress details, and quiet moments with loved ones.
- The Ceremony: Vows, rings, and that unforgettable first kiss.
- Couple Portraits: Romantic shots in a stunning location. (Blackbrook is the perfect venue for this, you don’t have to move very far for great locations and you can bring you glass of champagne with you.
- Family & Group Photos: Smiles, hugs, and happy tears.
- Candid Moments: Natural interactions that reflect the joy of the day.
- Speeches: If you have your speeches before you eat, your photographer can help you to work out the best timeline to capture these too.
Lisa Carpenter’s Top Tips to Make the Most of Short Coverage
How to keep your shorter coverage session fun, effortless, and full of those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments!
- Create a Simple Timeline: Prioritize the moments you want captured and discuss this with your photographer in the lead up to the big day.
- Limit Locations: Choose one or two favourite spots at your venue. Your photographer will be key in helping you to decide on these locations, trust them and be open to change, depending on weather and lighting conditions.
- Share Your Vision: Let your photographer know what’s most important to you. They’ll be able to guide you to maximise your photos into a shorter timeline.
- Consider a First Look: If you’re having a later ceremony and will be limited on natural light, consider a first look to get those all important portrait photos before the “I Do’s!”
- Family Group Shots: This can take a while depending on the amount of group variations, so go through these with a fine tooth comb before the big day to limit the groups down to the most important people - parents, grandparents, siblings. I always suggest no more than ten groups, even on a full day of coverage. Trust me, that smile fades after group photo number 29!
- Lisa’s secret sauce recipe: My most popular short coverage booking is my Essentials package and sees me with you for 5 hours covering bridal prep through to pre-dinner speeches, this goes a down a storm for smaller weddings but I can also shoot from two hours up to twelve if that dance floor chaos is all-important!
Is It Right for You?
Short coverage is a great option if:
- You’re planning a small or non-traditional wedding.
- You want professional photos but don’t need full-day coverage.
- You’re working with a tighter budget.
- You value storytelling and emotion over quantity.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need a huge timeline to have real, beautiful moments (or great photos).
You just need the right photographer who can keep up, blend in, and make sure you actually enjoy it while still catching all the magic.
If you’re having a micro wedding, or just fancy a couple of hours of photos before heading to The Cow Shed - you still deserve beautiful, storytelling photography.
Big day or small, the right photographer will always be happy to hear about your micro wedding plans and help you work out how many hours of coverage you’ll need.
@lisacarpenterphotography is taking late availability bookings, short coverage and micro wedding dates right now and would be happy to help you plan a sample timeline.
